Homelessness in LA

Homeless By Choice or Circumstance

If you travel in and around the Los Angeles area, they may be "invisible" but they really aren't hard not to 'see".

And the numbers do not lie.

Over 50,000 men, women and children are considered homeless in the LA Area.

This is nothing new.

LA has always been in the top five of the list of cities with the most homeless people in the nation.

But what is different is that LA is home to the most number of people who "shelter" for the night in city sidewalks and other public places.

I guess, the quest for the American dream, Hollywood, the weather, the location, the people, and the people they put in office who makes laws, ordinances and policies all make LA what LA is today.

Not Invisible

What is really hard to miss in recent years is that more and more homeless people aren't just confined in tents in Skid Row, South LA and other traditional encampments in LA, which is easy enough not to see if you don't drive through there.

Now, there are encampments in every city in and around the City of LA, be it people sleeping on the ground, back alleys, empty or abandoned properties, sheltering in RVs, vans, cars or tents and people standing around at street corners asking for change.

Harbor City (about 25 mi south of Downtown LA)

All these despite Prop HHH and "efforts" of city governments, agencies and organizations who have planned, proposed and implemented projects and who continually help promote campaigns to assist people with no traditional houses to come home to.

And guess what, a million more are close to or just a blink away from being homeless themselves.
