Open Up Our Cities

Let Us Be

The arguments for those who want to return to the old normal (as if we still can) or for those who want to open up their cities or those who are making a call to go back to work have always been one of a few things:

1. If you are afraid then you stay home but let us courageous ones go out and go about our business.

2. We are not sheep who will just take it and listen to what "they" tell us to do, we are wolves or lions or bears or whatever else. We can think for ourselves.

3. We have rights.

4. No one can tell me what to do.

5. And we want to go back to work, or school, or the gym, or the beach, or the casino or the bar, or watch concerts, ball games, movies or whatever else we want to go to, McDonalds even.

Yes all true.

Mask, To Wear or Not To Wear

But like the argument on masks that it is not effective, that it is bad for you and if you want to wear it then wear it but no one can force me to.

Yes, but it's all the same reasoning. YOLO. We have rights. No one can tell me what to do. We are healthy. We are not scared. We are not stupid sheep. Etc. Etc.

No, you are not.

But what you might be, you really do not want to hear.

You are a selfish nincompoop. There I said it. Well meaning you might be, but still certified.

You wear a mask not for yourself but for the person you will be in close contact with. The other person wears it for your benefit or whoever else you might infect once you get the virus.

And of course, you're going to argue that you are not blind sheep and all the other stuff. Of course you aren't. You're just a blind selfish, uncaring, inconsiderate and apathetic person.

Global Pandemic

Yes, global pandemic, wrote that on purpose. Pandemics are global epidemics. But for some, it just needs to be repeated.

Pandemics only come like once every 100 years, the last time it did, of course you don't know what happened or don't care to know but in case you do, somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 to 100 million people lost their lives.

And yes, they wore masks then, they locked down major cities. They closed businesses, schools, bars, movie houses and most everything else.

They relaxed their restrictions when it looked like the spread was getting contained, but only to go back to the same old restrictions because the number of dead people started rising again. Pandemics last years -- no not a few weeks or months.

Companies and busineses during the last pandemic, closed not only because governments shut them down.

They closed because owners and managers and their families got infected and dropped dead.

Bigger companies closed because there were no more workers healthy enough to come to work or worse there were no more workers left alive.

This new pandemic, like the last one will last for another year. Then we could start to go back to normal, yet it will not be the old normal.

Politics

And yes, pandemic viruses do not discriminate, they will not infect just one party. It is not color blind.

Democrats, Republicans and all politicians, they are all the same, we just pick between two lowlifes. We try to choose the lesser evil. And hope for the best.

Quit putting politics in the pandemic conversation.
